About This Role

Summary of the role

As an Operational Calculations Manager, you will lead and manage the Actuarial functions across the entire Phoenix operations estate.  This includes but is not limited to; Phoenix Heritage, Standard Life, PXCA and Reassure Annuity business. The key to success in this role is working strategically maximising the use of resources available, identifying resourcing gaps and working with local actuarial managers to improve the effectiveness of the delivery of actuarial services.

What you’ll be doing
  • Line Management of circa five Actuarial Managers each covering Heritage, PXCA, Reassure Annuity and Standard Life
  • Management of a utility style shared service actuarial model that maximises the use of resources available, identifying resourcing gaps and deploying skilled resources based on strategic priorities. This will also involve the development of a roadmap that ensures careful landing of new employees into the function as we migrate books of business across and transfer actuarial people into Diligenta
  • Working with the Head of Technical Services, Account leads and other senior leaders within Diligenta to ensure strategic priorities are met and work is balanced across all parts of the Phoenix Business by breaking down Silo’s and building an efficient organisational model that maximises the skills of the people within the actuarial function
  • Where required/appropriate, engage into the wider pan account Diligenta Actuarial/calculations community to represent the Phoenix account and support best practice across the business
  • Demonstrate visible leadership to motivate and engage the Actuarial function to achieve good customer outcomes and business results whilst ensuring best practice is followed and shared across the function
  • Responsible for the delivery of stated KPI’s and targets to ensure the client remains happy with the actuarial services that Diligenta are providing and avoiding commercial challenges
  • Lead the Actuarial function in a way that supports the company values and celebrate success, creating a culture and environment that others want to work in
  • Lead, coach and develop the Actuarial function to meet business objectives and ensure that good performance is rewarded and under performance actively managed
  • Embed a culture of continuous improvement activity within the Actuarial teams to create and share best practice and reduce failure demand, supporting the overall objective of the Technical Services function to operate our business efficiently
  • Plan, manage, implement and review change initiatives effectively to support migrations and BAU change activity
  
What we’re looking for
  • Educated to A level standard or equivalent vocational qualification
  • Understanding of the FS L&P regulatory environment and how it applies to remediation of customer/policyholder issues
  • Strong commercial and client management skills
  • Senior leader with gravitas and previous experience managing large scale multi-site functions
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, challenging environment where being able to work on own initiative is critical to success
  • Understanding of operational calculations management
  • Ability to impact and influence to ensure that we are able to deliver a change from beginning to end
  • A good understanding of the regulatory framework which applies to Life and Pensions administrators is desirable
