About This Role

Summary of the role

Working within a transformation programme or project change team to provide Actuarial calculation models and Actuarial support to execute BaNCS business processes.
This role is responsible for defining the approach and leading a team to execute the specification, testing and delivery of calculations on migration programmes or new propositional change to our core platform technologies.
Expected to lead and manage a team of 2-5 individuals. The role will typically lead the delivery of calculation specifications across a range of functionalities and business areas e.g. commission / re-insurance / with-profits and will be required to provide direction to others, as well as monitor and report on progress to senior leaders.

What you’ll be doing
  • Sets direction for the team and ensures methodology is understood and adopted.
  • Responsible for liaising with data analysts to investigate and validate complex calculations
  • Comprehensive actuarial knowledge as expected from a qualified actuary
  • Understands the implications of how the static data is held in terms of BaNCS implementation and ongoing maintenance
  • Leads a team in the analysis, identification and collation of static data required for calculations
  • Leads a team to define the specification of ERs in MS Excel/MS Word format for the consumption of TCS BaNCS team
  • Leads a team to define the specification of suitable test scenarios to ensure test approach is robust
  • Ensures testing is carried out in line with agreed plan
  • Clearly communicates any deviations from plan to senior managers in a timely manner
  • Owns the resolution of issues and liaises with actuarial, IT developers, product experts, TCS BaNCS and clients to drive solution outcomes
  • Evolves quality standards for area of responsibility. Expected to identify and drive forward improvements to standards, processes, controls, and tools to increase productivity and efficiency of delivery of ERs
  • Leads a team to define the specification of Calculations, Static Data requirements and end to end testing
  • Sets direction for the team to deliver against defined plan. Will have people management responsibilities
What we’re looking for
  • Maths-based degree with minimum of 2.1
    Associate level of Institute & Faculty of Actuaries
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills which are tailored as appropriate depending on the audience
  • Approaches work in a systematic and logical manner, utilising experience to
  • achieve high quality output
  • Quickly builds strong relationships with internal colleagues and external clients
  • that can be leveraged to ensure deliverables are fit for purpose and
  • achieved on time
  • Advanced user of MS Excel & Competent in VBA
  • At least 5 years of work experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of life and pensions product features for conventional and unit linked business
  • Understands regulations that impact the business and aware of upcoming regulatory changes and the impact on products
  • Coaching and mentoring (desirable)

  • Familiar with MS Access (desirable)
  • Familiar with use of coding languages such as SQL, SAS, R, Python (desirable)
  • Understanding of machine learning and designing AI systems to automate calculation design and predictive models that maintain calculation accuracy in production (desirable)
